 1962 3.8 OTS

Car for complete restoration.

7th December 2019

The trimming is reaching the end with all the glued components fitted.  The fuel tank is in along with the pickup and sender units installed.  Lots of small jobs finished with the intake plenum fitted.
15th November 2019

More small jobs finished and the reservoir bottles are fitted and brake pipes bent (the one on the top is our finished article!).  We have also started the trimming.
25th October 2019

A good few hours have been put into the car this week and it was good to see the owners today.  The radius arms were bolted and wirelocked in along with the heatshields and exhaust.  A lot of time was spent on the new fuel tank but we have got that fitted in nicely now.  Won't be long before we are firing it up and starting the trim work.
18th October 2019

More fitting up and the fuel pump is in place, number plate & reverse light fitted.  The number plate chrome finisher is also on the car so it is starting to look a bit more finished.
11th October 2019

The upgraded Mangoletsi throttle convesion has been fitted.  Worth noting the thin rubber fitted to the early cars between the bumper and body.  Really neat.  Original body tag id back in its factory fitted position on the LHS rear wing.
4th October 2019

The car coming together well and the door handles and chrome tops have been fitted.  Following work on the original fibreglass gearbox tunnel cover, that is now in place.  The upgraded air deflector is fitted in the bulkhead and we now have the carbs and rear lights fitted.
27th September 2019

Lots of small, detailed jobs have to be completed.  We believe this level of detail makes the cars just that bit nicer.  The door locks have been stripped, cleaned and re-greased prior to assembly with a  new lock barrel.  (We like the barrels to be matched so there is only one key for the car).  Radiator hoses have been fitted along with drain hoses in the boot, the boot badge and the upgraded oil pressure gauge feed pipe.
20th September 2019

Under bonnet nearing completion and the radiator is now fitted along with the header tank and bracketry.
 6th September 2019

A huge amount of work has been completed this week.  Most notable is the engine is in!
30th August 2019

Now that Leon is back there has been lots of progress.  We should  be ready to put the engine back into its rightful position next week so fingers crossed we get the plating and powder coating back in time!
23rd August 2019

More Dynamat installed.
16th August 2019

Work is well under way now.
9th August 2019

We have some of the powdercoating back and Barry has been busy cleaning up the yokes and cleaning threads prior to rebuilding and fitting.
2nd August 2019

More work completed and all the chrome has been delivered for repair and plating.
26th July 2019

Lots of work completed this week and the door internals are being cleaned and restored.  The dynamat has been installed in the tub and the main fuel line fitted.  The rear axle is in place and the Mangoletsi throttle upgrade built onto the carbs.  Fuel filler flap, bootlid springs and bootlid fitted along with the doors and rubbers.  Heater transfer pipes, heater valve, side looms and steering column bracket.  Finally, the centre dash panel has been stripped and partially built.
19th July 2019

The components that need to be plated or powdercoated were delivered to their respectives companies today.  Won't be long before they are back and on the car!
14th June 2019

A great start to the week when the bodyshell was delivered from the paintshop.  Really looking forward to cracking on with this build now!
12th July 2019

We now have the side frames and fuse blocks fitted.  A few hours have gone into this stage of the build already with the plastic insulation fitted to the wiring loom tabs and all the threaded holes cleaned in the bulkhead.
24th May 2019

All the interior and underneath is painted and the outer panels are now prepared for final coat next week.  Can't wait to see the end result.
17th May 2019

The paintshop have been  busy with the under panel work and we'll be moving on to the outer panels next week.  Looks great!
3rd May 2019

The paintshop are cracking on and should be in paint next week!
5th April 2019

More pictures and this is the final chrome fit and check before applying paint.  Going to be stunning.
29th March 2019

Really pleased to report that the bodyshell is not far away from painting.  Final filler being applied ready for second coat of primer.
5th October 2018

Just a few pictures of the fit of the original headlight chrome in place.  Those gaps aren't too shabby!
7th September 2018

The car is now starting to look like a car and the original bonnet has been repaired and refitted.  All the chrome has been trial fitted and the only major adjustment we had to make was to the door top chromes.  They had to be shortened by about an 1/8th of an inch to ensure a good fit.
24th August 2018

The original bonnet was retained (well, as much as possible) and is not fitted on to the car.  Looks great and just have the trial fits and gapping to finish now.
3rd August 2018

The bodyshell is nearly completed and we just have the bootlid holes to fill and final, final gapping. The door repairs are complete (we prefer to repair rather than replace/re-skin wherever possible).   Work starts on the bonnet next week.
13th July 2018

The 62 OTS (APi) is really taking shape now and the rear wings have been shaped to enable the lights to be fitted.  We've achieved a superb fit!  The RHS door has been repaired (we like to repair doors rather than re-skin as the new skins always take on a different shape to the rest of the car.
6th July 2018

The rear panels are finished with the bootlid lined up nicely and the doors in place.  The bonnet has been delivered (in kit form) and it won't be long before we see it looking like an E Type again!
29th June 2018

The rear wings, quarters and numberplate panels are being fitted.  It shows how complicated these shells are.
13th April 2018

The newly restored carbs and rear axle are now finished for the 1962 OTS (APi).  First time the carbs have been with the engine in a long time!  We removed the gearbox bell housing from the original gearbox in order to clean it prior to installing it onto the new 5 speed gearbox.
23rd March 2018

The tub is now ready for the outer panels to be fitted.  Should be starting that next month.
12th March 2018

We collected the engine this week.  A very early engine (Dec 61) it has all the properties of the first cars (smooth sump etc).  Looking forward to getting this project going and we will have some news of the tub later this month.
9th February 2018

It is important that we retain as much of the original car on the build.  Being so early, we look carefully at components that we would just replace as a matter of course.  This heater box is a case in point.  When finished and powder coated, it will look brand new.
2nd February 2018

We now have the pedal box stripped down.  Lots of work to do to refurbish with all new bushes, bearing and re-sleeved master cylinders.  T
26th January 2018

The component strip down has begun in earnest now and the front suspension and hubs are now in component form (not without a struggle though!).  Callum also got to grips with stripping the top wishbones down along with the heater box.  (As it is an early box, it will be repaired and not replaced).
8th December 2017

The structure of the bodyshell is now complete.
1st December 2017

Progress is now being made on the shell rebuild.  The photos show just how complicated the E Type monocoque is!  When Hutsons have finished the basic shell build, we will take it away for the outer panels to be fitted.
1st September 2017

The bonnet has now been carefully stripped down into its' component form and here you can see our latest member of staff (Barry) hard at work.
13th October 2017

Interesting to note that this early car has a gearbox and engine date stamped December 1961!  Callum is seen here helping split the gearbox from the engine.
7th July 2017

Rear axle delivered for rebuilding.  We decided to outsource this work owing to time constraints.
3rd February 2017

The shell is now back from the blasters.  As you can see, it has been the subject of a few repairs and an attack of the dreaded tin worm.  We are now assessing the most cost effective way of repairing this important, early car.
16th December 2016

Now stripped and delivered for Media Blasting.
2nd December 2016

The car is now being stripped down ready for media blasting.  Nice and complete but the usual rot!
11th November 2016

A quick trip up North to collect another full restoration.  This time an early (1962) car.  Looks pretty complete so looking forward to getting stuck in.
